Policies and Procedures

The Academy of Performing Arts strives to provide a warm and motivating environment for children to experience dance. Our teachers work together to create a dance and movement syllabus with a coordinated developmental program which improves physical skills and builds a sense of self esteem and confidence.

Classes are combined with performance opportunities to provide a well rounded dance experience. Limitations on class size allow teachers to nurture and to give personal attention to the children, helping them grow until they are ready for more advanced classes. The Academy of Performing Arts focuses on the belief that all people, young and old, benefit from having quality dance in their lives.

STUDIO INFORMATION AND POLICIES

PRACTICE WEAR is required at all practices. Black jazz pants recommended for Jazz.  Leotards and tights suggested for Ballet (any color).  We prefer black tap, pink ballet and tan jazz shoes.  All students’ hair must be tied back and secured for class.

REGISTRATION FEE – A non-refundable $35.00 fee is required with the registration form to reserve class space.  A registration is not considered complete and class space is not reserved until this fee is paid.

INSURANCE – It is required that all dancers be covered by their family insurance policies, and if injuries occur, it is understood that the student’s own policy is the only source of reimbursement.

SNOW OR BAD WEATHER – We will close if the Shelby Schools close.  Watch the news, call us or check our website www.danceapa.com

HOLIDAYS will generally follow the Shelby City School schedule.  Holiday dates will be posted.   We do not close for teacher work days or one-day holidays (Mondays).

GOOD ATTENDANCE is imperative, as absences and tardiness hold back the entire class and the studio cannot jeopardize its responsibilities to the rest of the class for one student.   Please make every effort to have your child to class on time.

PRIVATE LESSONS are available at a charge of $15.00 per half hour and $30.00 per hour to receive extra technique help or extra help if classes have been missed, etc. Limited enrollment.

THE BIG RECITAL has been set tentatively for Sunday, May 25, 2025 at Malcolm Brown Auditorium. We will have two shows, a matinee and an evening.   Most children will only perform in one show.  Rehearsals will be at specific times Friday and Saturday of that week.  All opinions and suggestions are welcome.

THE PRESCHOOL RECITAL has been set for Monday May 19, 2025 at Shelby Middle School.

COSTUME DEPOSIT – A $35.00 per costume/per class deposit will be due by November 10 .  It may be paid with November tuition.  This deposit is non-refundable but we have learned to order early to assure delivery by recital.  The balance will be due February 1.  Please plan ahead and pay promptly.

TUITION remains the same whether it is a long (five lessons) or a short (three lessons) month, regardless of absence.  This is due at your child’s first class of every month.  There will be a $10.00 late fee for tuition not paid by the 10th of the month.  No monthly statements will be sent out unless your account is past due.  There is a $25.00 fee for all returned checks. The studio accepts payments by cash or check

THERE WILL BE NO GUM CHEWING OR FOOD IN THE CLASSROOMS. PLEASE REMEMBER WE ALL USE THE WAITING AREA SO PLEASE THROW AWAY ALL YOUR TRASH.  HELP US KEEP IT NEAT.
